Brief info
Shane Kavanagh was born and raised in Michigan, where he developed an early connection to the outdoors and a lasting appreciation for its natural resources. In his twenties, he spent several years on the West Coast, fishing throughout California, Oregon, and Washington, and broadening his experience across a wide range of fisheries and techniques.
A passionate angler, Shane enjoys pursuing a variety of species using both fly and conventional tackle. Whether close to home or traveling, he is always ready to fish—often keeping a 5-weight fly rod in his truck for any unexpected opportunity.
Shane returned to Michigan to pursue a career in law and to be closer to family. He believes Michigan is home to some of the most important natural resources in the country and is dedicated to their long-term stewardship. His approach to conservation is practical and balanced, recognizing the need to reconcile conservation goals with modern economic and societal demands, including energy development. Outside of his professional and conservation work, Shane enjoys spending time with his family and dogs, and as much time on the water as possible.
