Brief info
Jim was the Department Head of Communication and Performance Studies and Director of General Education at Northern Michigan University before he retired in 2023. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1985 and had since specialized in the study of environmental communication. In addition to his scholarly writings, Jim consulted for a range of agencies and organizations in the United States and Canada and served as US Chair for the Lake Superior Binational Program’s sustainability initiative. In his community and beyond, he founded the Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy and currently serves as a District International Service Chair helping to manage global grants for Rotary International.
