Education Committee Chair
Brief info
I grew up and still live in Marshall Michigan. The Kalamazoo River is at the end of my block, just downstream of the confluence of Rice Creek and a couple miles upstream from Talmadge Creek, the site of the Enbridge oil spill. I’m usually on the river or one of our local trout streams at least a few days a week either fishing or paddling.
I have been in the ornamental fish business for over 40 years. I owned a retail aquarium and pet business for 35 years. Now I install and maintain aquariums for schools and businesses, build and service water gardens and small ponds, and supply organisms for science kits to schools for grades K-6.
I joined the Kalamazoo Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited about 30 years ago. I served on the board for a number of years including one term as the chapter’s President. I was one of the co-founders of the Michigan TU Youth Fishing and Conservation Camp and served as director for a number of years. I helped develop and implement a number of watershed plans, designed and installed instream structures and habitat, and have been involved in a number of dam
removals. I teach fly tying and casting classes, assist teachers with Salmon in the Classroom tanks, serve as a river helper for Casting for Recovery, and volunteer with a number of family fishing programs.
