Spring Creek Trout Pond Dam – Manistique River

The Spring Creek Trout Pond Dam, located in Luce County at the headwaters of Spring Creek within the Fox River and Manistique watershed, is an earthen dam previously managed as a stocked Brook Trout fishery. Found to be in poor condition by the EGLE in 2017, it was drawn down in 2018 to alleviate safety concerns. Due to the remote location, the expense of repair or replacement, and the fact that it lies within a state-designated Natural River watershed, the Northern Lake Michigan Management Unit has decided to remove the dam. This removal will restore natural river flow and improve the habitat for native aquatic species.

Michigan Trout Unlimited is soliciting bids for the Spring Creek Dam removal project located north of Seney, Michigan in the central upper peninsula. Attached is a PDF copy of the project manual which contains the bid documents, specifications, construction drawings (including a site map), and background information. Due to the remote nature of the site there will be a mandatory site visit for bidding contractors on Thursday, June 13th at 9am. Please meet on site (46.398244, -85.864364) – from M28 take M77 north, turn right on Danaher Plains Rd, then right onto Spring Creek Rd. Follow Spring Creek Rd until you hit the turn around in front of the dam.

Please submit your bids, including the cost sheet and technical qualifications package to Jordyn Stoll of Michigan Trout Unlimited via email at jordyn.stoll@michigantu.org by 5 pm on Friday, June 21st.

Please direct all questions to Jordyn via email jordyn.stoll@michigantu.org or cell phone 440-315-2320.
